Since the writing of our business plan, well before ever opening our doors, one of the things that was - and still is - very important to us is our impact on the community around us. Yes, we wanted to open a bottle shop and craft beer bar because we wanted it to be fun and hopefully make a few bucks, but we also saw it as a way to be involved with our community and to hopefully be able to give back to it.
Each year, we host fundraisers and donation drives for local charities. We also donate gift cards and merchandise to various non-profits and charities to be used in raffles and silent auctions. And, while we cannot yet donate to every charity who approaches us asking for a donation, we are proud to say that we have selected a great group of charities in 2017 that directly impact the community we live in.
We again contributed to the National MS Society this year, through our partnership with the Team On Draft cycling team, helping them to once again be one of the highest fundraising teams at the Bike MS: Historic New Bern Ride.
Additionally, all of the membership fees for people joining our Varsity VIP Beer Locker program were donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Durham and Orange Counties. We also held a charity raffle for the Boys & Girls Club at our Oktoberfest/3-Year Anniversary Party.
So, why are we bragging about all of our charity this year?
Well, we want to make one more push to impact the community before the end of the year...and we could use your help!
This December, we are hosting a donation drive for the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill. For those of you who aren't familiar with the work of the Ronald McDonald House, it is not a place to go eat unlimited french fries while running from the Hamburgler.
The House embraces parents and children going through a medical emergency that has brought them to the UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, providing them with a place to stay, meals to eat, and the support they need in some of the most difficult days of their lives. The House offers physical comfort and emotional support through programs dedicated to the well-being of the whole family.
Together with our good friends at Haw River Farmhouse Ales, we are putting together a bunch of great prizes that will be given away to randomly-selected customers who drop off a donation to the Ronald McDonald House between now and December 21st.
All you have to do is take a look at the RMH Wish List and bring in some of the requested items. For each donation you make, we'll put in another ticket with your name on it into our raffle.
Then, join us on December 21st from 5-8pm for our Festivus party where we will be tapping a few special Haw River beers, airing our grievances, competing in feats of strength, and announcing the winners!
Prizes include:
- Private tour and tasting for two at Haw River Farmhouse Ales
- Private tour and tasting for two at The Glass Jug Beer Lab (once the new space opens)
- Haw River Growler with voucher for a free fill + Glass Jug growler and a voucher for a free fill
- Haw River T-shirt and a Glass Jug T-shirt
- Voucher for a free tasting flight at Haw River & at The Glass Jug
- Signed bottle of Saxy Machismo Reserve from Haw River Farmhouse Ales
You can drop off donations anytime between now and the 21st. Simply place them around our Festivus pole (yes, we have a Festivus pole!) and get your raffle tickets from one of our bartenders.
The last thing you can do to help is to SPREAD THE WORD! Email this blog post to your friends. Go shopping for Wish List items together. Post about your donation on social media. Share a photo of our Festivus pole with your donations around it. Bring your mom to our Festivus party so you can tell her all the ways she has disappointed you this year (hopefully it's not by not bringing in a donation!). Whatever it takes - just help us get the word out and continue to make a big impact in our community! THANKS!!
