Science at the Beer Lab & Beyond

The art of brewing is in our bones, but the science really gets us excited. Meticulous note-taking, the scientific process, experimentation with variables, chemistry research rabbit holes, insistence on precision, and quality assurance are totally our jam.

In addition to the science involved in making beer, we are deeply involved in promoting STEM education and scientific research in our local community.

We are trying to further the public education of science in our local public schools by donating time, money, or materials to all of the following organizations.

  • Neal Middle School

  • Lowes Grove Middle School

  • Riverside High School

  • Durham School Supply Drive

  • The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

  • Duke University

  • NC Museum of Life & Science

We also focus some of STEM-centered giving on medical research and treatment. Who said beer won’t cure disease!?

  • National MS Society

  • ALS Therapy Development Institute

  • Children’s Flight of Hope

  • UNC Breast Cancer Center

  • Pints for Prostates

  • Sarcoma Foundation of America

  • Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of the Carolinas

  • March of Dimes

  • Muscular Dystrophy Association

  • Shepherd Foundation

We also do our part to pay it forward, providing education on the science of beer-making to others in the craft beverage industry and to consumers. Chris Creech, our Head Brewer and Co-Owner, has donated countless hours of his time to speak at conferences and educational events on topics related to brewing processes, beer styles, quality assurance, and sensory testing. These efforts have been through the North Carolina Brewers Guild and the Triangle Craft Beer Alliance, as well as other partnerships and our own home-grown educational events.
