It seems a bit surreal at times, but 2019 marks five years since we opened our doors at The Glass Jug. It’s humbling to look back on all of the changes that have happened and all of the people who have walked through our doors over the last five years. Here’s a photo from almost exactly five years ago today, when we were just getting ready to open our doors for the first time.
While it may seem cheesy, we think that five years is worthy of a big celebration. So, we’re doing something (a lot of somethings) we haven’t ever done before. We’re going to be celebrating our 5-year anniversary over the course of five days from September 17 - September 21, 2019. Below, we’ve outlined all of the various festivities. You can also RSVP on Facebook, where we will be posting updates as we get closer to the festivities. We hope you’ll make a point to join us for as many of the five days as possible.
Ongoing/Early Celebrations
We have brought in some limited-edition 5th anniversary glassware and long-sleeve t-shirts that are currently available. They’ll both be 5% off for the whole week of our celebration, but we do expect them to sell quickly, so if you want to pick one up in advance, they are on the shelves now.
We also just re-released what was our first collaboration beer. Triple Ginger Tripel - a Belgian-style Tripel with ginger added - was brewed for our grand opening in 2014 as a collab with our pals at Mystery Brewing Company. They also brewed it again for our first anniversary in 2015 and put it in 22oz bottles. This year, we picked up the torch and brewed the beer at The Glass Jug and packaged it in 500ml bottles. Draft and bottles are available now as an early sneak-peek for our 5th Anniversary!
Day 1: Festbier Release
Festbier is an Oktoberfest lager brewed to commemorate the Oktoberfest season and our 5-year anniversary. It’s low-alcohol, crisp, with a subtle malty backbone, and is perfect for hoisting in your favorite stein to celebrate any occasion. We’ll be releasing this beer in 750ml growler-shaped bottles in addition to draft starting on Tuesday, September 17.
Day 2: Fourth Dimension Release
Our first-ever barrel aged fruited sour is finally ready to be released. This dark American Sour was aged in rum and apple brandy barrels from Fair Game Beverage Co (Pittsboro, NC) and conditioned on tart cherries and blackberries. The blended beer will be released in 500ml bottles and on draft on Wednesday, September 18. Again, the bottles are very limited in number, so don’t sleep on these.
Day 3: Cellar Sale & Vintage Beer Tapping
On Thursday, September 19, for the 5th consecutive year, we’ll again be hosting a cellar sale where we’ll be pulling out vintage bottles of some of our favorite limited-release beers over the past several years. We’ll also be tapping several of our beers we’ve been aging for just such an occasion. We’re bringing back several of our Standard Deviation imperial stout kegs, plus we’ll be tapping the very last keg of Barleywine Is Leif, our triple barrel-aged barleywine that recently won a silver medal at the NC Brewer’s Cup.
Day 4: Collaboration Beer Day
We love that the craft beer industry is such a welcoming and collaborative place. So, we wanted to share our celebration by spotlighting and collaborating with some of our good friends and talented brewers across the state. On Friday, September 20, we will be tapping beers we brewed at Brewery Bhavana, Bond Brothers, Divine Barrel, Southern Pines, and Vicious Fishes. All of these beers are draft-only and will only be on draft for a limited amount of time.
Day 5: Oktoberfest & 5-Year Anniversary Party
To cap things off, we’ll be throwing a big party on Saturday, September 21, complete with live music (including some authentic German oompah music), food trucks (Bull City Street Food), ax throwing, a stein hoisting competition, and we will be releasing THREE new beers in 16-ounce cans.
Southern Hemisphere Opacity: Our latest juicy, hazy IPA featuring exclusively hops grown in Australia and New Zealand, giving a tropical, citrus, and white pepper hop profile.
Bring Back Transparency: A crisp, dry, moderately bitter American IPA dry-hopped with Mosaic and Ekuanot hops for a big tropical melon aroma, with just the right amount of hop bite to call it an IPA.
Good Prime: This is our official commemorative 5-Year Anniversary beer. A Belgian Dark Strong Ale at 9% ABV with flavors of caramel, dark fruit, toffee, and a subtle roastiness. It’s a beer that is complex and will change with every sip. Pour it in your favorite snifter glass and notice how it opens up as it warms.
So, whether you make it out to one or all five days, we look forward to seeing all of our customers who have helped us make it to this point. Without your continued support, we certainly would not be in the position we are in now, enabling us to host such an awesome week full of great beer and fun!
